K-9 Division

The K-9 Unit’s main responsibility is to support field units in apprehending criminals and detecting concealed dangerous drugs and narcotics. The agency currently has 1 narcotics detection K-9. The team is highly trained. The personnel and their K-9 partner have received hundreds of hours of specialized training to insure that they possess the best skills to perform their assigned duties. The K-9 unit is assigned to the entire county to be available to assist when a K-9 is or may be needed and to allow the unit the flexibility to work the entire county to locate and deter criminal activity.

Partnerships
The K-9 Division partners with area K-9 units to assist when needed and has mutual aid agreements with area K-9 units that have access to bomb detection and tracking K-9’s that are available at any time to provide resources to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
