Emergency Management

Emergency Management protects communities by coordinating all the activities necessary to build, sustain and improve the capability to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to and recovery from threatened and actual natural disasters such as tornadoes, flooding and ice storms, man-made disasters such as hazardous materials spills, industrial and transportation incidents, and acts of terrorism.

EMS

Jefferson County holds an EMS License through the State of Georgia, however, EMS response is provided by Gold Cross EMS which is contracted by Jefferson County to provide this service under the direction of Major Carl Wagster.

Extension

UGA Extension extends lifelong learning to the people of Georgia through unbiased, research-based education in agriculture, the environment, communities, youth and families.

Fire Department

Jefferson County Fire Department protects approx. 500 square miles, with a population of over 16,000.

Jefferson County Landfill

The Jefferson County Lanfill provides for the proper management of the collection and disposal of all solid waste generated within the borders of Jefferson County using practices that ensure the sanctity of the county’s environment and that are consistent with the goals and objectives of the Board of County Commissioners. Solid Waste disposal includes waste generated from the commercial and residential units as well as wood, yard trash, and construction and demolition debris.

Magistrate Court

Probate Court

The Probate Court of Jefferson County, Georgia is an office of service to the people. It is also a court of record.

Recreation

Jefferson County Recreation and Parks agency is the principal provider of recreation and athletic facilities and programs in Jefferson County.

Sheriff's Office

The primary purpose (mission) of a law enforcement agency is to maintain social order within prescribed ethical and constitutional limits, while providing professional law enforcement services. To attain this, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) enforces the law in a fair and impartial manner, recognizing both the statutory and judicial limitations of police authority and the constitutional rights of all persons.

Tax Assessor's Office

The Tax Assessor's Office is responsible for determining tax, value, and equalization of all assessments within the county.

Tax Commissioner's Office

The Jefferson County Tax Commissioner is responsible for receiving tax returns filed by taxpayers, receiving and processing homestead exemption applications, and performing all functions related to billing, collecting, and accounting of ad valorem taxes.

Transit’s mission is to provide efficient, effective, safe and affordable transportation that will allow riders to access jobs, medical/dental offices, education, social service agencies, government offices, and for shopping/personal purposes.
