The principal responsibility of the Uniform Patrol Division is to provide 24 hour protection and services for the citizens of and visitors to Jefferson County. The Uniform Patrol Division is charged with the following responsibilities:
Assisting citizens in dealing with legal, medical, social or humanitarian problems through direct crisis intervention and/or making referrals to agencies equipped to deal with such problems
Improving law enforcement and community relations by increasing the quality and quantity of contact between citizens and the Sheriff’s Office
Improving the criminal apprehension rate by conducting thorough preliminary investigations where appropriate
Preventing the occurrence of street crimes through visible preventive patrol
Reducing accident hazards through the enforcement of traffic laws
Responding as quickly as possible to all requests of an emergency nature
Responding to motor vehicle accidents and rendering aid to injured victims
