Criminal Investigations Division

The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) performs follow-up investigations on all preliminary reports taken by the Uniform Patrol Division. This highly specialized division is staffed with trained investigators assigned to follow-up on specific crimes. These personnel investigate:
  • Crimes against children
  • Crimes against persons
    • Assault
    • Battery
    • Homicide
    • Rape, etc.
  • Crimes against property
    • Burglary
    • Robbery
    • Theft
    • Trespass
    • Vandalism, etc.
  • Narcotics and vice investigations
This unit is also comprised of specially trained investigators with extensive training and experience in investigations of child abuse, sexual assaults and domestic violence.

Cooperation
This division also works closely with other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in order to investigate and solve crimes that cross over county and state lines, while affecting the citizens of Jefferson County.

Other Offices
Each investigator works seamlessly with a host of multi-jurisdictional partners to include the District Attorney’s Office, the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services, the Child Advocacy Center and area hospitals. Investigations are undertaken with a multi-disciplined team approach with our partner resources allowing investigators to insure a complete and thorough investigation of all allegations. This division also has the primary responsibility of investigation of crimes committed against senior citizens.

Sex Offenders
As a result of this unit’s dedication, services to victims have been greatly increased with this approach. These investigators also maintain a registry of Registered Sex Offenders living within Jefferson County and insure active compliance with applicable reporting laws of these individuals.
